Walking along stretchy webbing or a slackline is a relatively new branch of a much older art form, tightrope walking, and is quickly gaining popularity. In Slovenia, we have been practising it extensively since 2004 and are still discovering new aspects of balance which are inextricably linked to finding balance in everyday life.
Slackline to us represents all of the following: a fun and sociable practice for the body and mind; a trip into nature; a constant interplay between mind and intuition; relaxed perseverance in difficult and intense situations; and an excellent training for improving motor skills, stabilisation, focus and mindfulness. And we can put all these skills to good use in the challenges we face every day! This is also the reason why the community of slackliners around the worlds is so strong.
The Sporting, Cultural and Research Association Balansa Slackline was founded in April 2014 in Ljubljana. Its members promote, spread and research the slackline culture which contributes to creativity, good health and a better-quality life in a fun and relaxed manner. To this purpose, we carry out balance workshops and courses, manufacture and sell the required equipment, organise events, lectures and presentations, set up slackline training grounds and visit international highline meetings.
